Red Margin Bamboo
Maximum heigth 55′

When I operated a nursery this was one of my best selling bamboos. It makes a tall screen that is very cold hardy and drought tolerant. The bamboo is named Red Margin because of the red edges of new shoots. The wood is tough but easy to split. It is ideal for construction as well as wood pulp. Auburn University did studies of bamboo for pulp production and this was the best performing species.
The grove of Red Margin below is not far from our place. It is located in a power line right of way between two highways. It is constantly being cut so it never gets very tall but continures to expand at the far end. I and others have dug many hundreds of plants from this grove over the years.
