Alocasias

The most striking feature of Alocasias is their large, arrowhead or heart shaped leaves, usually pointing upward. They come in a large variety of sizes but this page is about elephant ears so these are the big ones.  Some Alocasias can getup to 8 feet tall or more with huge 3 to 4 foot long leaves. The stems can be massive and colorful with leaves that range from dark green, silver, purple, and even copper metallic. The varieties below are ones I’m growing or have grown in the past.  They survive winters in zone 7b with a heavy mulch but I always dig up about a dozen of the larger ones and store in the shop until spring.
