One of the strongest bamboos with straight culms that have small internodes.  It was used extensively before the age of plastics and is still the choosen species for bamboo flyrods.  It has large leaves and sheaths that are semi-persistent.  Very vertical canes rarely bend, this is a beautiful bamboo.  Ideal for crafts and construction.
