My friend Will sent these pictures from Michigan. This first picture is a White Top Pitcher (S. leucophylla) that overwintered in Michigan. It gets very cold in the area with the ground freezing solid. I’m not sure what he did as far as protection, perhaps he will comment on that.
This next picture is just amazing. These are little Butterworts (Pinguiculas) growing on a boulder along the shore of Lake Superior. I had no idea they grew in such a place. You cans see where the water line is right at the plant. Pings are my favorite carnivorous plant with some of the prettiest flowers. Thanks for sharing the pictures Will.
I did a little research and found that Pinguicula vulgaris grows on the rocky shores of Lake Superior and is so rare it is protected by law! Because different Pings live in different, very narrow habitat ranges, and judging by Will’s description and pictures, it seems this could very well be P. vulgaris.

I put a cinderblock over the S. Leucophylla. It was definitely damaged from cold weather, but this year, I am going to mulch it properly.
